Meet the club…….
Katya Gorrie was brought up in a theatre family and started working professionally at the age of 11. She toured with her parent’s company as a young actor dancer and singer, learning as she went and inspired to study all three disciplines. Trained in both classical and jazz vocals, Katya eventually left the theatre and dance behind to focus on a career in music. Never far from her roots, Katya has managed to fuse all her experience into the performer she is today. Katya has written, produced and recorded seven albums to date and toured in North America, Europe and the UK.
Bristol based Jonny Bruce is one of the most in demand trumpet players on the scene today. Working as both a soloist and a lead player in a variety of musical contexts, Jonny has received much critical acclaim for his fiery trumpet work. From Bobby Shew, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis to Kelis and Illa J, his trumpet has seen him perform at venues and festivals across the world with many greats from a variety of genres. Aside from his big band and small group work, he is a passionate educator, the Musical Director of the Bristol Community Big Band, and his trumpet has recently been featured on the BBC drama series The Outlaws.
Classically trained pianist, accordionist and bandoneon player Mirek Salmon has his BMus from the University of Cardiff. He has composed music for the British Film Institute BBC television and of course Moscow Drug Club. Mirek writes and performs for Tango band Tango Calor
When he's not playing with MDC, bassist Andy Crowdy can be heard with jazz legends such as Art Themen or John Etheridge, or playing guitar and keyboards in his Led Zep Project. He enjoys teaching and has written many pieces for both bass and guitar, putting his Masters Degree in Composition to good use. Andy's role in MDC allows him to both lay down a solid grooving foundation to the rhythm section and to offer up flashes of virtuosity when the time is right!
Andy Bowen is a jazz guitarist inspired by Django Reinhardt, George Barnes and Charlie Christian. He has performed throughout the UK at many leading jazz festivals and has shared stages with many leading European gypsy jazz players.
